Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is defined by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as "...the practice of scientific investigation with integrity. It involves the awareness and application of established professional norms and ethical principles in the performance of all activities related to scientific research." This discussion is to further explore that code.
Case scenario:
A physician comes to the unit and states they are working in the lab and need some blood to run a lab test for their research study. The physician asks the nurse to assist with drawing the blood. The physician and nurse enter the room of one of the physician's patients. Without a parent present, the physician asks the 17-year-old patient if they can draw the patient's blood. The adolescent seems reluctant but agrees to the procedure. The physician and the nurse draw the blood, and the physician leaves the unit without documenting the procedure.
