I think that nursing has a big responsibility in implementing and advocating for policy. Nurses are the experts in patient care in the areas where we work. We should be able to pay attention to evidenced-based practice and implement policy that is best for our patients. I think that all nurses would advocate for positive outcomes with patients and that starts with implementing policy for the entire team to follow. Nurses should have the autonomy to create change in their practice. This can be achieved with shared governance. This is a shared decision process with leadership and nursing and can lead to improvement in policy (Orton, 2021). Nursing need to be a part of solutions in order to improve patient outcomes and their own workplace.
