Response to with intext cite Historically speaking, one commonly used solution for dealing with immigration was to either close off immigration entirely via border control or to slow down the process of immigration through limiters, as was done in the United States on multiple occasions (Macionis, 2019). From a global perspective, some of the bigger benefits of people migrating are slowing the population growth of the country the immigrants are leaving and filling in important jobs in the target country: The filling in of jobs that are less than desirable for the average citizen is especially noted as a major benefit in the United States (Macionis, 2019). Globally, some notable problems with immigration include contributing to the target nation's population growth and exposing immigrants to potential segregation or even genocide from less tolerant governments: The United States, at one point in the past, very specifically drew attention to the potential change immigration could bring to culture as a potential downside (Macionis, 2019).
