Article: Today marks the one year anniversary of the return of Scott Kelly - and astronaut who spent 1 full year in space living in the International Space Station. As a twin (who has a brother who is also an astronaut) they were able to make a unique study of the effects of space on the human body - something that is necessary to know if we plan to go to Mars - or even farther - someday.
Please read this article - pick at least one of the things that he learned and tell me if you - learned something from it, were surprised by it, or felt that it was an obvious thing that he didn't need to learn. AND WHY.

Student Response 1:
Scott Kelly learned how important water and gravity are to our everyday lives on Earth. He pointed out how after he got home he jumped into the pool in his backyard. . I guess going to space really helped to point it out, being that he had to go without them for a year. I was really surprised by this. I never thought of the fact that it is rather difficult to take a shower or bath in space. The feeling of having our bodies submerged in water is amazing. That is why we go to the beach, have pools and hot tubs, and take baths.
Student Response 2:
I found that the one thing that he craved the most was water. I sort of found it ironic since we haven't been able to find substantial sources of water anywhere in the universe so far for humans to survive using and so hearing him say that he wanted more than anything to have water and how he never wants to take it for granted. It makes me think that being up in space in an area where the last thing you would think about is water, more so oxygen. But going that long without an abundance of water really brings it to life. I also found it interesting how he found the simple things so magical, such as the smell of grass, the feeling of the wind, and the sound of rain, all something that does not exist in space. One thing that I can relate to him is the way he handles pressure. He finds himself calm and productive and I feel the same way, when stress is high I can find myself thinking more clearly and create solutions to problems.
