Case Study: Management of Pediatric Pneumonia Patient Information: Patient: Sarah Age: 3 years old Gender: Female Diagnosis: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) Height: 38 " Weight: 28 lbs Background: Sarah is a 3-year-old girl who presents to the pediatrician's office with a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Her symptoms began two days ago, and her parents report that she has been increasingly lethargic and irritable. Sarah has no significant medical history and is up to date on her vaccinations. Clinical Presentation: Fever: Sarah has a fever of 101.5°F (38.6°C) measured at home. Respiratory Symptoms: Sarah has a persistent cough, which is productive of yellowish-green sputum. She appears to be in respiratory distress, with increased work of breathing and nasal flaring. General Appearance: Sarah appears lethargic and irritable. She is pale and sweaty, with decreased oral intake. Auscultation: Lung auscultation reveals crackles and decreased breath sounds in the right lower lobe. Diagnostic Evaluation: Chest X-ray: A chest X-ray confirms the diagnosis of pneumonia, with consolidation and infiltrates in the right lower lobe. Complete Blood Count (CBC): Sarah's CBC shows leukocytosis with a left shift.
