Resolving Ethical Issues and Dilemmas

The mission and vision statements drive the outcomes of an NPO or NGO and generally involve social change or public service. For this reason, the daily operations of NPOs and NGOs aim at social goals rather than the accumulation of wealth. These operations should be conducted in an ethical manner. However, as you have been reading in the Learning Resources, not all NPOs/NGOs have ethical codes or guidelines, and those that do often have codes that cover only select aspects of ethical conduct. Therefore, how can NPOs/NGOs be encouraged to act ethically, and how can they resolve ethical dilemmas?

In this Assignment, you review scenarios describing an ethical issue or dilemma faced by an NPO and select one to analyze. Then, you will explain how the issue or dilemma might be resolved.

For this Assignment, review your Learning Resources and focus on how ethical conduct can be addressed in NPOs. Select one of the dilemmas in the article "Unavoidable Ethical Dilemmas for Non-Profits" Retrieved from https://www.scu.edu/ethics/dialogue/candc/cases/fundraising.html

The Assignment (2-3 pages):

Provide an analysis in which you do the following:

  • Identify the ethical issue or dilemma.
  • Explain the ethical issue or dilemma in the scenario chosen.
  • Describe a strategy to resolve the issue or dilemma.
  • Support your strategy.
