To apply policies and procedures to resolve privacy issues

Assignment Description:

While working in the Health Information Management department, we received a phone call from a grocery store. The grocery store had received a fax from your department which contained a patient's personal health information indicating that the patient had a communicable disease. Upon further research, you discover that the information received at the store was an automated fax from the facilities EHR system and was supposed to go to the patient's PHR and the state health department.

Using the HIPAA privacy rule, state and local regulations, and other privacy policies, create a checklist of steps to resolve this privacy issue. Be sure to include all parties involved in the issue (grocery store, patient, HIM department, IT department and others).Include how the issue should be reported, to whom, and any possible fines/punishments. You checklist should include at least 25 different items.
