A medical resident is an individual who has completed their medical degree (and is a qualified doctor), but is still in the training phase of their career. They still see and attend to patients, and participate in surgery, but under the supervision of a senior physician Research suggests that medical residents are often chronically sleep deprived. In fact, 66% of medical residents get less than 6 hours of sleep per night (the recommended amount is 7 - 8 hours). Use what you've learned in class to discuss why this sleep deprivation is problematic and dangerous.
