Case Study:

Today was the first real day on her first real job. As Erin pulled into the parking lot of the grain elevator she was going to manage, she saw the sign on the side of the building—reserved parking for elevator manager Erin Bahn. She had never been this important before, but it felt good.

This was it. All of the time spent in classrooms and company training programs were over. Now it was time to go to work.

She entered the building and introduced herself to the staff. Sean Murdock, one of her employees, escorted her to her office. Her name was already on the door. It took about two hours for her to unload all her materials and get the computer set up the way she wanted it.

Somehow, it all looked so easy in the training program. How was she ever going to mix everything she had learned about agribusiness and business management, so she could be successful?

Since you are her mentor, Erin has come to you for advice. Describe what you think is important for Erin to focus on during her first year as elevator manager. What about her second year?
