Please help me answer this discussion question for my History and Philosophy of HKR class. We use the book History and Philosophy of Sport and Physical Activity by R.Scott Kretchmar.

Sport and religion have been partnered through much of history. If nothing else, this fact speaks strongly to the symbolic power of sport, which provides a place where poignant religious meanings can be publicly expressed and rehearsed. The power and visibility of sport also make it a useful tool for religious education and even religious conversion, and this fact was not lost on 19th century British missionaries.
