Researching the "Atkins" Diet Plan

There are many different diets that proclaim to be the answer to weight loss. Research the "Atkins" diet program. Use scholarly/credible websites (not just the commercial website for the diet program), and at least 3 actual research articles (from Pubmed, CINAHL, etc). Make sure you properly cite your sources using APA style.

Make sure you respond to each of the following questions in your research paper:

  • How does this diet work? Provide enough detail that we can understand what people need to do to follow it.
  • How much does it cost?
  • What are the benefits?
  • What are the downfalls?
  • What is the success rate? Is it effective? How was this determined?
  • What has research found about it, if anything? (As with your supplement research, you will need to use actual research articles to answer this question.)
  • Is this a diet you'd try? Why or why not?
  • If you or anyone you know has tried this diet, what is it like to be on it?
