Assignment -
You must reply your classmates with a thoughtful researched discussion. 200 words.
Immunizations have become quite a controversial topic as of late. Many groups and even some celebrities have made claims that vaccinations can cause autism. There has been a lot of debate as to the risks and benefits of vaccinations. One ingredient that is used in multidose vials of vaccinations is thimerosal. Thimerosal is a mercury-based preservative that has been blamed for the development of autism. Many reputable studies have shown that there are no links between immunizations and autism. The CDC (2015) has funded or conducted nine studies that have shown no link between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism. Due to the increased concerns thimerosal was removed from many vaccines as a precaution, not because there were any studies that showed that there was any link between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism.
There are many varied arguments against vaccinations; most based on inaccurate information or rare side effects that have been hyped through social media. Health care providers need to educate patients and families about the rare occurrences of these side effects and the many benefits that vaccines provide. Immunizations are not perfect. Their efficacy does sometimes wear off and they do not protect against all types of disease (such as the HPV vaccine). This does not mean that people should not get immunized but that like everything in life, nothing is perfect. Immunizations have helped to eradicate or nearly eradicate many diseases and with continued use, will continue to eradicate more diseases.
