Investigations into tourist safety, security and health-related awareness have drawn the attention of the United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and allied agencies in the tourism industry. Within the Ghanaian tourism context few studies (Boakye, 2012; Poku & Boakye, 2019; Preko 2020) have identified some destinations as unsafe for both international and domestic tourists. Subsequently, the Ghana Tourism Authority has called for research to be conducted into beach and city tourism with focus on public safety, disaster prevention, political security, sense of safety, trustworthiness of tourism information among others. For example, in 2019 beach tourism supported 58,000 jobs of total national employment in 2018. In 1991, the UNWTO suggested that all nations should develop a national policy on tourist safety and risk prevention. According to the earlier empirical studies (Dolnicar, 2005; Lo et al., 2011; Tarlow & Santana, 2002; Yang et al., 2015) the risk associated with the tourism industry include the unforeseen occurrences of earthquakes, flood, riots, terrorism, crime, sexual assault, pollution, food safety, acts of war and others.
