Two parts of Canada have repeatedly agitated for major changes to Canada to meet their demands. One is Québec, where two referenda on separation were held (1980, 1995) and where separatist political parties (Parti Québécois, provincially; Bloc Québécois, federally) compete in and win elections.
But the other is Western Canada. All four Western provinces want to see changes made to the Senate. Separatist parties pop up repeatedly, although none of them have ever won power. But the major effort was done by the Reform Party (now the major part of the Conservative Party of Canada), which has held power in Ottawa, and "provincial only" parties have ruled BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
Today a new movement is underway in Alberta and Saskatchewan, seeking separation from Canada.
Research the sources of alienation in the West, and write up your findings in a Word document.
