Registered nurses are in short supply in the United States - a situation that is expected to worsen. It is predicted that the demand for US nursing services will exceed supply by nearly 30% in 2020.

Many registered nurses are approaching retirement age, and the nursing profession is facing difficulties attracting new entrants and retaining existing nurses.

In addition, nursing schools have been unable to expand fast enough to supply enough additional nurses.

Research the severity of the nursing shortage in your area. (You can use sources such as O*Net, Bureau of Labor Statistic, and state labor market sources).

Then develop an action plan to strategically address a real or potential nursing shortage in your area (even if one doesn't exist in your area).
