You are a detective for the Vancouver Police Department in the year 2025. You are at the scene of a crime where a criminal single-handedly robbed a casino, then shot and killed 3 men working at the casino. Although there were eye witnesses to the crime, the robber was wearing gloves, oversized coveralls, and a mask that covered his/her entire head. No one is able to give any kind of a description of the perpetrator. Luckily, being the ingenious detective that you are, you find a little spot of the criminal's blood on a shard of glass where he/she cut themself as he/she made his/her escape through a broken window. You take the blood to the lab so tests can be run. Fortunately, thanks to years of research, scientists have now figured out which genes in DNA code for every human characteristic.

The sample of blood from the crime scene was quite small and the lab was only able to isolate a small amount of DNA. Forensic scientists will have to amplify the amount of DNA available to be sure there is enough to test. Research the method used by forensic scientists to accomplish this task and identify the steps involved as well as a description of each step.
