An older Iranian woman with a life-altering illness was slowly dying. The hospital staff felt that nothing could be done to improve her condition. Her son refused to sign the Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order and insisted that everything possible be done to prolong his mother's life. Staff members could not understand this reasoning, and felt that it was causing needless suffering for the client.
