ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
Overview - A group research project in preparation for Playwork Placement.
In this task, students will translate theory into practice and plan for their Playwork Pop-Up Placement.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this assessment task is to:
Work as a group and demonstrate respect for diverse perspectives and skills
Plan and initiate new ideas and make decisions regarding the construction of curriculum for young children independently and in collaboration with others
Evaluate physical activity, health and wellbeing as defined in policy documents, development theories, and curriculum frameworks and articulate the implications of policy and framework documents on practice
Learning outcome 1: Articulate the value of place and children's agency in play
Learning outcome 2: Examine how personal, social, cultural perspectives inform individual and collective understandings of children's health, wellbeing and risk.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
In this assessment, you will work in a group to critically analyse beliefs about children and early childhood practice and creatively reimagine how this might look in practice.
This will be in the form of a research project in preparation for your Playwork Placement that reflects the group's emerging understanding of agentic, play-based early childhood programs.
'1500 word equivalent' is the amount of work the task represents i.e. it is as much work as a 1500-word essay per person.
As a group, read the PSF Risk Benefit Assessment Form and use this document as a resource to plan for and justify your practice for your Playwork Pop-Up placement.
Your submission will include the following headings:
Acknowledgement of Country/ies specific to where your pop-ups will be undertaken
Benefits of a Pop-Up Playspace (for children, families and communities)
Perceptions of Risk and Risk-Benefit Assessments
Including but not limited to:
Location
Environmental factors
Loose parts
Humans
Loose Parts
What are the possibilities afforded when we introduce loose parts?
Where will you source your loose parts, and how will you transport these to your pop-up?
What will you consider when planning for a range of children aged birth to 8 years?
Include examples (images) of what each group member will bring and what might be possible from these parts.
Engaging Families
How will you ensure children and families are aware of your pop-up?
How will you explain working in a Playwork style and Playwork Pop-ups to children, families and community members?
