Scenario
In an ever-changing, increasingly complex health and social care environment, our understanding of the role, duties and responsibilities of the practitioner in protecting service users continues to evolve. One thing we are sure of is that evidence-based strategies to health, safety and safeguarding contribute significantly to improving the health and wellbeing outcomes for service users, their families. Your manager has asked you to conduct research related to thetheme Health, Safety and Safeguarding through the Lifespan.
Task 1Part A Literature review
Choose a research topic of your choice relevant to the theme Health, Safety and Safeguarding and research question you intend to answer and state the rationale for choosing this question. Conduct literature review on the chosen topic and discuss the role of the findings of the review in defining your research questionandjustify the rationale for choosing this question (P1)
Discuss the literature found in the field that justifies the research focus and questions, together with any adaptations you have made to your research questions from your literature review search. You should justify your literature in terms of validity and reliability using appropriate methods and critically evaluate the information.
Conduct a skills audit to enable you review your own skills in conducting a piece of research into your proposed topic.(P2)
Your report should also include an evaluation of the skills you possess and need to acquire in order to carry out a piece of action research.(M1)You could include an appendix which details ways you will acquire the skills needed.
The report should be presented using conventional academic written standards and must include a reference list using the Harvard referencing system.
Task 1 Part 2
Produce a Project Proposal:
In developing your research proposal:
Identify suitable research title and provide background to the study based on the results of your literature review.
Formulate a problem statement for the study and write out your research questions to be investigated
State the aims and objectives for the study
Illustrate in detail appropriate research methods for investigating research question/hypothesis(P3)which must include the sources of data, appropriate method of data collection, potential participants, sampling method and sample size and statistical methods to be used and how data will be analysed
You will need to analyse the methodological approach taken to answer the research question (M2) and critically evaluate how effective research methodologies selected support proposed research study (D1)
You should also discuss the ethical considerations needed to carry out ethical research and meet ethical and legislative requirements. (P4)
NB:Develop a timeline for the research (Gantt chart)
Task 2 Part A
Once ethical approval has been granted, you will implemented the research by commencing data collection (P5).
Prepare a discussion and present the research study and findings in the form of a report.
Your discussion should present findings and relate these back to the literature you have found to assess whether it is similar, extends or offers alternative findings.(P6). You should include references using the Harvard referencing system and present your data analysis in an appropriate format(M3).
Your report should include:
• The research title, questions and reasons for research
• Key literature found
• Participants and methods used for data collection
• Methods used for data analysis
• Critical analysis of the research findings and how they relate to current literature(D2)
• Discuss the impact of findings for policy and practice(P7).
You should provide a conclusion to your research study that discusses the impact of your research journey on your own professional development (P8). It should also consider the impact on health and wellbeing locally and from a global perspective in supporting improvements in Health, Safety and Safeguarding through the Lifespan(D3).. You should evaluate the way that research has developed the way you look at practice and your role in contributing to improving Health, Safety and Safeguarding through the Lifespan.(M4). You should also develop SMART targets that can be included in your personal development plan (PDP). Map this to (PLAD)
