The Institute of Medicine (2011) and Benner et al (2010) have called for a radical change in the way nurses should be educated and their scope of practice. These changes also support the BSN as the entry level into practice with a push towards MSN prepared nurses managing and coordinating patient care in acute care and community-based settings.
