Instructions for Peer-Reviewed Article Paper

Q: Are white men and women more accepting of same-sex marriage compared to black men and women?

For this assignment, you will investigate a topic/question regarding gender. You can research a topic on gender issues in the U.S. or gender issues in a different country.

But this is not just an "opinion" piece; your initial opinion on the answer is completely irrelevant.

You will use the peer-reviewed, scientific literature to answer these questions.

You will use one of the electronic databases to which the library subscribes to find peer-reviewed, scientific articles that answer these questions.

Peer-reviewed scientific journals are the primary source of scientific knowledge.

You need to learn how to become proficient in searching for articles, how to read them, and how to find answers to questions you have.

You must answer the question from a sociological perspective and not a psychology, biology, etc. perspective.

You'll need to find at least 6 peer-reviewed articles from sociological journals that relate to the question you chose (Links to articles below).

You will then summarize the findings of the articles in a paper that is 4 to 6 pages long.

Your paper should include an introduction and a conclusion that poses, then answers, the question in a succinct manner, respectively.

In the paper, you should reference the articles you read when you draw upon them. You MUST discuss every article you reference.

No direct quotes are allowed, unless you are quoting a percentage and/or number.

Additionally, you need to learn how to cite sources. In-line references should include the author(s) last name(s) and the year (e.g., Barringer, Gay, and Lynxwiler 2013).

At the end of the paper you should have an alphabetized list of references that includes all of the articles you read and discussed in ASA format.
