Assignment:

For this case study you are to research (search the Internet or Seneca library) a real life security or emergency management event that affected a hotel (or group of hotels). It must be an event that resulted in injury, loss of life, damage to property or disruption of normal hotel services (e.g., terrorist attack, fire, earthquake, protesting, power outage, flooding, bomb threat, criminal activity, COVID-19, etc.). The event can be recent or could have occured several decades ago. It does not matter when it a happened or in what country. The event has to have occured in a traditional traditional hotel/motel environment and NOT home sharing (e.g., Airbnb).

You are to answer all the following questions:

1) What happened and why did it happen (if applicable)? 5 marks (Give some introduction background and context such as where is the hotel located, how big was the hotel, it in an urban or rural area, etc).

2) How did the hotel respond to the event? Was the event foreseeible or preventable? 5 marks (Based on media coverage how well did the hotel staff respond to the event? If it isn't obvious of how the hotel responded just give your opinion on whether you think the hotel was prepared for the event. Explain whether the hotel should have been prepared for this event and if it was foreseeible or preventable).

3) Pretend you are a security consultant and explain how you would help the hotel to be more prepared and better able to respond to the event in the future. 5 marks (I am looking for linkages and references to course materials and lecture content such as theories, concepts, etc)

You can answer the questions in one of three formats:

1) Writen: format in Microsoft Word or plain text on Blackboard. Minimum six hundred words (excluding title, above question and references).

2) Visual: Powerpoint presentation, infographic, video presenation (either with audio or no audio). Minimum 10 slides (excluding title slide, question slide, and reference slide)

3) Audio: presentation (audio format). Minimum 5 minutes of audio presentation of you answering these questions orally.

Remember to use APA 7 referencing for all citiations. Which ever format you use, you must upload or attach at least one URL of a website where you obtained your source information (So I can confirm your case study event). The 2017 Las Vegas Hotel Mass Shooting, the Kim Kardashian hotel robbery, and the 2014 Marriott hotel data breach are all EXCLUDED as case studies as they have been covered in depth within the course.
