As we all learn this week that both TCA and electron transport chain happens in the mitochondria, the power house of the cell. Mitochondria has a fascinating origin. It was hypothesized that mitochondria is descended from a bacteria that was survived in symbiosis inside another prokaryote after being engulfed (endocytosis). It is the only animal cellular compartment that has its own DNA called mtDNA. Mutation in the mtDNA causes severe disorder in human.
