Reproductive Health - Nutrition During Pregnancy

Go to the USDA website

Create 2 profiles for yourself (see below). When each profile is completed, it should take you to your "MyPlatePlan" page. Click on the recommended calorie intake on the table at the bottom of the page to view recommendations for your diet, which includes information on total calories as well as amounts of foods from different food groups. Save or print these pages for each of your profiles.

1. The first profile includes your current statistics, but as a female who is not pregnant or breastfeeding

2. The second profile includes your current statistics, but as a female who is pregnant with a due date of May 1, this year (third trimester pregnancy)

Use the 2 profiles to answer the following questions:

List 5 of these nutrients below. (Note that nutrients are building blocks in foods; they are not whole foods. For instance, seafood is not a nutrient but iodine or specific oils found in seafood are nutrients). You may need to utilize other professional-level resources.

Include the following information:
i. Recommended daily requirements for non-pregnant and for pregnant women.
ii. Explain why the nutrient is needed: what benefit/results do they provide for the pregnant mother, the pregnancy itself, and/or the fetus.
iii. What are some examples of foods that contain these nutrients?

Question 4. List at least 2 foods that should be avoided, or have reduced intake during pregnancy. Explain the risks of ingestion, or the risks of ingesting too much.

Save your 2 profiles as an electronic document, or print them out and scan them in. Include them with this document when you submit them to the assignment box.
