A collection of evidence leads us to conclude that both of these works contain the theme of patriotism. The first piece of evidence is an analysis of "L. David Faciebat Romae," The Brick Walls in the Oath of the Horatii. The resource was written by Joseph Manca, who closely analyzed the structures in the background, such as stucco and brick walls, and highlighted patriotism throughout the text. The second piece of evidence, titled "Picturing American History, 1770-1930, was written by Karen Lemiski, depicting different periods in American history through paintings and their importance, such as visual patriotism. The historical context of the "Oath of Horatti" according to Manca (2019), "The represented event is set in the distant past and highlights patriotism and virility" (p.162). This painting was also linked to the political atmosphere in Ancient Rome. Emanuel Leutze's work titled "Washington Crossing the Delaware" according to Lemoski (1995), "The initial grand manner depicted characters and events heroically in order to instill patriotism by depicting them according to Renaissance and Baroque compositional conventions" (p.567).
