A 16-year-old female comes to the primary care office reporting a sudden onset of sore throat that started 24 hours ago. The patient states that she felt feverish but did not take her temperature. She states that swallowing is very painful and when looking at her throat she noticed some "white spots". The patient denies having nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, otalgia, cough, or shortness of breath. She denies any sick contacts. The patient reports not taking any daily medications and has no known drug allergies. She is a non-smoker and drinks 2-3 beers about 2-3 times per month.
