Case Study - Court Report
In 2-3 pages, you must submit a report to the Justice of the Peace/Judge, indicating your decision to accept or decline Martin into YCAPP. Your report should be addressed to the Justice of the Peace using formal legal terminology. (Your Worship or Your Honour)
If you decide to accept Martin A into YCAPP, your release plan must include your rationale and your service plan accompanying the release.
If you decide no release plan is required (i.e: he remains in custody), indicate your rationale for this decision and the service plan while he is in custody.
If you decide there should be no service plan for Martin A. and he should be released, indicate your rationale for this decision.
Your report should include the following criteria:
A summary of YCAPP and your role as Martin A's supervisor. Include your decision whether he should be accepted into YCAP and why or why not.
A summary of Martin A.'s family background and its relevance to the case.
A summary of Martin A's community and peers and its relevance to the case.
Identify where Martin A will live upon release from custody and indicate whether this is a suitable place for him to reside.
Identify Martin A.'s plan of service and its relevance to your decision. Justify your service plan, including time frames/duration of any programs you recommend. (Consider what needs must be met to reduce recidivism). ** You do not need to provide specific programs that exist in Regent Park today. It is enough to suggest general programs/services, for example a peer mentoring program.
Include any additional information that may be important for the court to know about this case.
Include how your plan of care addresses the needs of Martin A, the family, the community, the court and how it upholds the principles of the YCJA.
Your report should be written using the following headings: (1) Summary of YCAP/Role of Supervisor/Decision; (2) Family Background; (3) Community/Peer Influences; (4) Residence; (5) Plan of Service; (6) Additional Information (7) Conclusion.
