Assignment Scenario - For this assignment you are required to present a written report on a technical subject of your choice. It is recommended that you discuss and agree your proposed research topic with your tutor, and select an area of study that is relevant to your field of work, but also develops and expands your knowledge rather than re-works existing knowledge. Read the whole assignment carefully before committing yourself to a particular subject.

Report research - Identify suitable and relevant sources of information to meet a research topic agreed in advance with your tutor. You should use the reference sources to add weight to your written report. As such, your references should be relevant, current and authoritative. Where you quote or cite another author within the report, you must follow the 'Harvard' referencing system. As a guideline, you should include a minimum of six sources of reference material. If you use other sources but do not quote or cite them directly, then you should include these in your 'Bibliography' section.

Please note that most academic personnel will not appreciate references drawn from well-known online encyclopaedias. Use peer-reviewed journals, and textbooks where possible.

Research evaluation - You will produce the written report in a clearly structured and professional manner. The report should evaluate the findings of your research and present logical arguments and conclusions. It is expected that you will organize your report following a pattern to that suggested below:

A brief abstract.

An introductory section outlining the background, the scope and intended readership.

A clear statement of the aim and objectives of the report.

Central sections, explaining any findings, arguments and outcomes.

A suitably structured conclusion that draws together the findings of your research and any recommendations you are making.
