Network Design
Assessment - Report and Presentation of Logical Network Design
Assessment Task:
Part A
In Part A of this assessment task, together with your group members, you should analyse the given scenario and prepare a group video presentation on the logical network design of your group using the top-down network design methodology.
Important:The non-performing members can be penalised by the other members of the group by voting them low. When you upload your presentation slides, please indicate the vote (a number between 0 and 10, inclusive of both) that you give to each one of the other members of your group. If you have not indicated a vote for a group member, we assume that you have given 10 to that group member. To calculate your mark, the group mark will be scaled according to the votes given by the members of your group as follows.
Let us say that your group has n members, and you obtained a group mark of M. The other n-1 members of your group voted you with v1, v2, ...vn-1. Then your mark = M/2[1+ (v1+v2+..+vn-1 ) /10(n-1)]
For example, assume that you are in a group of 4 and your group obtained 10 marks for Part A. If the other 3 members have given you 7, 9 and 8 as their votes, your mark will be (10/2) [1+(7+9+8)/30] =9.
Part B
In Part B ofthe assessment task, you willproduce a written report of your logical network design.
Your report should include:
1) List of Business Goals and Constraints
2) List of Technical Goals and Tradeoffs
3) Table of User Communities, Data Stores, Network Applications and Traffic Flows
4) Model for addressingand naming
5) Explanation and justification of the logical network design
6) Logical network diagrams including addressing and naming
7) Discussion and justification of your choice of routing and switching protocols
8) Discussion and justification of your choice of security mechanisms
The Scenario for Network Design Assessment Tasks
Lux Car Rentals (LCR), a newly established car rental company in Queensland. This car rental company provides self-drive, and chauffeur driven car hire in several major cities in Australia. The head office is in Brisbane and the branch offices are in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Hobart. Their services include formal and luxury car hire, supercar hire, wedding car hire, drive aways and so on. They offer corporate packages and membership options for their loyal customers. They are planning to offer an additional service of delivering the prestige rental cars directly to the designated locations in those cities as per customer orders. Staff among different sites need to regularly communicate with each other through WAN network services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the staff are working from home and connect to the company network through an Internet connection for video conferencing. Each location also provides free wireless LAN access to the customers and visitors.
Customers can place an order either by visiting any of the local offices or using the web interface or using the mobile App of LCR, as well as through phone calls and via email messages. The orders will be processed using customized proprietary software purchased by this company. By using this software, LCRwill not only reserve the most suitable and available vehicle from their fleet in the nearest vehicle warehouse but also deliver the order, if required, to the customers in a minimum time.
LCR provides online and on-site payment facilities for the customers to pay for their orders. Their required network should be available 24/7 to store the real-time stock level and reservations of their vehicle fleet and their customer details. Further, the vehicle fleet in the warehouses should be monitored using CCTV monitoring system connected to the network. LCR needs the guarantee that their proprietary algorithm, and various data and information in their information system are highly secured.
TheManaging Director of LCRrequires you to provide them with a proposal withtwo(02) designoptions. One with the minimum budget, and the other one with no budget limitations.
The proposal with no budget limit should include the additional options given below.
- Cloud based servers.
AND
- Networking cyber security consideration for the design, and how it will improve the network security and performance.
with cost benefit analysis for both of the above options.
The cost benefit analysis details should be included in your final report, along with other required information, in your Assignment 2. Assignment 2 details are given in a separate document.
Using the top-down network design methodology, you are required to design anetwork as per the requirements for LCR. You are allowed to make assumptions in relation to business and technical goals if they are really required to facilitate your network designs. Each step of your network design should clearly explain and justify how you satisfy the business and technical goals.
