Encapsulation is a subject that has implications way beyond the field of technology, but it may look slightly different. The general idea of encapsulation/information hiding is granting only parts of a program to the programmer, in order to ensure things like safety and efficiency. The same concept can be seen in the Bible, with a little bit of a twist. It is no secret that many of the stories in the Bible take place with God working in the background and having his hand guiding the people involved. The story that immediately comes to mind for me is the stories in Exodus surrounding Moses and the freeing of the Jews.

Throughout those events, Moses doubts God and does not understand how the things God is asking him to do will work out, forcing him to trust the Lord with every step. It may be a bit of a stretch, but I believe that the Lord hiding information form Moses directly relates to the information hiding discussed in computer science. The idea is present in both cases, if the person receiving the information knows the entire picture, then they will be far worse off than they would be with some information withheld. The same level of thinking can be made when it comes to our personal relationship with God.

If God let us in on all the details of his existence and how it relates to our lives, not only would our heads explode, but we would live completely different lives as a result. The same can be said about information hiding as it relates to programming. It allows for the programmer to operate within the system easier without fear of tying details to information that is not relevant to the task at hand. Information hiding in both realms makes for a more positive experience, just as it is intended, by both God and the system.
