Are we in the United States of America falling behind when it comes to performance management as opposed to the rest of the world? It is reported that many organizations are beginning to rethink the tried-and-true HR practice of annual performance reviews. Several organizations are personalizing employee feedback to monthly or weekly and replacing annual evaluations and rankings.
They were at one time useful to employers to keeping employees accountable, rewarding those that excel. It was a good way to track performance over time. But what are performance reviews now? How are they handled internationally? Often, they may cause as many problems as they are suggested to solve. Are they guiding managers to coach employees? Or merely to cover their bases.
