Remix Culture: Media Mash-ups
A large aspect of our digital culture in the social media Web 2.0 phase has been the remixing or manipulation of media. Whether it's an artist that has combined others' photos to create a new photo, a musician who used other artists' work in their own music, or a YouTube remix of a movie trailer that turns The Shining into a romantic comedy (What?!), there are plenty of products produced across various media that have taken source materials and remixed them into new products. For this assignment, find an example of a remixed media product and complete the following:
Cite your sources as the bottom of your assignment, please!
1. Give the author of the remixed media product and provide an image or link to the product. Also give the author of the original media product and provide an image or link to the product.
2. Describe the background of the remixed product and where and how it was remixed (3-4 sentences) (ex. year remixed, products used, etc.)
(Ex. The remixed song was inspired by Jo Dee Messina's 1996 hit "Heads Carolina, Tails California". The remixed song used the original chorus lyrics and melody to create a new song, "She Had Me at Heads Carolina". This song was recorded by Cole Swindell in 2021 and released in 2022. The song was written by Swindell, Thomas Rhett, Ashley Gorey and Jesse Frasure and recorded at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville.)
