Religion in Civil Rights Movements

Most Americans feel connected to Christianity in some way, so for a movement to also be related to it can help bring in those people who are religious and also affilitated with the same religion. I do think that this brings a benefit to these movements because people already have one thing that they share with them and have in common. This reminds me of the social movements about the hijab. Recently, many hijabi women are being prevented from wearing the hijab in France and other European countries but no one really takes that seriously and their isn't much support. However, with the unfortutante events in Iran and how women are being forced to wear the hijab, people are taking it more seriously and ready to get upset at the religion because they already have some beliefs against it to begin with. Both issues are just as important, but since one is against Islamic beliefs (even though you can't force anyone to wear the hijab in Islam either) people are talking more about it and hating on Islam while no one bat an eye when women had their rights of wearing the hijab taken away. So, since people are not with the religion, they don't support it as much compared to if it wasn't that religon or against it. This is an interesting thing to bring up, and I must say that it has an impact on how big social movements can become.
