The debate that we as humans derived from apes has been going on for ages; religion and science have very divergent ideas, but both usually can agree that humans as well as animals are full of complex and riveting emotions. Then why do some believe humans have more rights than animals? Humans and animals are the closest linked species, in most people’s opinion. As shown through film La Jetee by Chris Marker and the novel The Island of Doctor Moreau by H.G wells. The significant difference between both pieces of acts is evident, in one it is customary to subject humans to an abundance of pain and experimentation in seek of future gain; while in the other work, animals are the ones put through horrifying torture. Through my paper I will argue while using my two selected passages that even though people see the notion of harming animals more socially acceptable than that of harming humans, both species are susceptible to pain and both reap the consequences of pain; which should make both unjustifiable. Furthermore, through the movie La Jetee and the novel by H.G Wells, The Island and Dr. the viewer ultimately becomes overwhelmed with.
