James Thacher, A Military Journal during the American Revolutionary War, from 1775 to 1783.

James Thacher was and American physician born in Barnstable, Massachusetts in 1754. He began to study medicine as a teenage and eventually became a surgeon in the Continental Army during the War for Independence serving from 1775 until 1782. Thacher was an eyewitness to key events during the war which he recorded in a detailed journal published in 1823.

Please read Thacher's journal to provide an analysis of the Continental Army throughout the war based on his experiences. What themes emerge from Thacher's observations and experiences? (e.g. morale, hardships, leadership) How does Thacher describe the relationships between soldiers, officers, and civilians? What insights does the journal provide into the social and cultural aspects of military life during the Revolutionary War?

Read up to page 390 in the journal. No need to study the Revolutionary Annals, Appendix, and Biographies at the end.
