Reflect upon course objectives.
Review the seven course outcomes in the syllabus and post a response reflecting on how you feel you met these outcomes. Consider how much your perspective has changed from Module 1 in your reflection.
Module 1
Suppose a professor splits their class into two groups: students whose last names begin with A-K and students whose last names begin with L-Z. If p1 and p2 represent the proportion of students who have an iPhone by last name, would you be surprised if p1 did not exactly equal p2?
If we conclude that the first initial of a student's last name is NOT related to whether the person owns an iPhone, what assumption are we making about the relationship between these two variables?
1) I would not be surprised if p1? was not exactly equal to p2?
2) In this case we are assuming that the variables are independent
Explanation:
These are my suggestions.
1) Let,
p1?: proportion of students, with an iphone, whose initials start with A-K
p2?: proportion of students, with an iphone, whose initials start with L-Z
The English alphabet has 26 letters of which 11 are in A-K, and 15 are in L-Z. Thus:
p1?=2611?=0.42=42 %
And,
p2?=2615?=0.58 =58 %
Therefore, 42% of students whose last names start in A-K are expected to have an Iphone, while 58% of students whose last names start in L-Z are expected to have an Iphone. Therefore, I would not be surprised if p1? was not exactly equal to p2?
2) If we conclude that the first initial of a student's last name is NOT related to whether the person owns an iPhone, what assumption are we making about the relationship between these two variables?
In this case we are assuming that the variables are independent
