David Bentley Hart's second chapter in his book explores the ways in which our understanding of the world has shifted from a deeply organic whole containing higher and lower causal forces (primary and secondary causes) and a range of metaphysical depth to a flattened, metaphysically poor, mechanical picture of the world. This shift has made it very difficult for the average modern/post-modern person to understand "God" in a metaphysically rich way, which causes lots of problems (like the inability to think properly about the relationship between the supernatural and the natural). For this week's Discussion Post, you are to reflection on Hart's second chapter.
