Discuss how the relationship between secular and sacred authority was negotiated between 500 and 1100 CE, and how it reshaped life in the Mediterranean World.

I want you to discuss this relationship by comparing two examples of state/religious authority - Christian or Islamic - one of conflict & one of cooperation.

I don't want you to describe one conflict and one example of cooperation. I want you to think about what life was like in a town, a monastery, on the land of a lord. And explain how that life changed in response to these negotiations between secular and sacred authority.

I want you to demonstrate that you understand the implications of these things - how and why they mattered to everyday people.
