It is often argued that natural resources trigger or prolong civil wars and internal conflicts. Rebels often mutate from warriors seeking justice for their community to looters trying to extract financial benefits from capturing resources. Use any one of these countries as a case study to find out the validity of this hypothesis- Sudan (1983-2005) and South Sudan (2013- present), Democratic Republic of Congo (1998-present), Afghanistan (2001-2021), and Columbia (1964-present).
