The Relationship Between Infant Holdout and Gives, and Pointing.

The article should be succinctly summarized and evaluated in the student's own words. The summary is important because it will indicate the student's understanding of the article but it should be as succinct as possible because of limited space and most of the paper should be devoted to an evaluation and discussion of the article. The research should be set in the context of other research, especially research covered in this course. A critique is not necessarily just negative. You may agree with aspects of the article, in which case you should explain why you agree and back this up with arguments and evidence, and think about what this research means for current debates discussed in the course. The goal is to draw on what you have learned in the course in your evaluation and discussion of the article you have selected. Use at leasttwo other scholarly articles published in peer-reviewed journals or scholarly books, which you have read (do not cite textbooks, dissertations, or blogs). There are many aspects of the article to focus on such as the interpretation of the results and the associated theoretical perspective, or the methodology, and you will not be able to cover all aspects. You will have space to focus on one or two points, three at the most. However, a simple methodological critique is not sufficient, it must be couched in terms of the broader issues in the course content. The goal is to draw on what you have learned in the course in your evaluation and discussion of the article you have selected. Students should consider the ongoing debates and think about what position they agree with. It is important to justify your position with reasoning and evidence. Implications of the results and possible future directions for research should be discussed. It may be helpful to think of it as similar to a PSYC-300 paper. You can also look at a journal like Behavioral and Brain Sciences, which is set up in this way with target articles followed by a series of 1,000 word commentaries.

Papers should be a maximum of 1,000 words of text (not including the references), typed in 12-point font. The papers should conform to APA guidelines (but do not include an abstract, method section, etc.). Any quotations must be clearly indicated in APA style.
