Two friends are partners in a new online t-shirt company (UCRE8) that is gaining in popularity and sales due to innovative technology that allows customers to design and produce their t-shirts in various personalized styles. The company's current employee base comprises 15 family members and friends that manage sales, marketing, finances, production, shipping and online technology. There is no real demographic or cultural diversity among existing staff who can be best described as Caucasian males between the ages of 20 and 30 born in Toronto.
To keep up with demand, UCRE8 needs to double its staff. While one partner suggests searching for more family and friends that would fit within the current employee dynamic, the other partner would like to diversify the workforce to include more women and people from diverse demographic and cultural backgrounds. One partner believes that a more diversified workforce will lead to further business growth and success. In contrast, the other partner feels that introducing greater employee diversification will only create discord and conflict, slowing business growth.
Both partners decided to weigh the pros and cons of diversifying the workplace by considering the key challenges and problems they may face and the key advantages and benefits a more diversified workforce may present to the growing company. The partners have contracted you to conduct an analysis of workplace diversification at UCRE8 and make recommendations based on your findings.
Your assignment is to develop an analysis of workplace diversification to address the circumstances at UCRE8 and provide some key recommendations. Please review the grading rubric below for specific requirements.
