You set up a 'diffusion race' between the following molecules: lactose, glucose, a small protein of fifty amino acids, and a molecule of amylose (a form of starch with, in this case, about 15,000 glucose molecules). All of the solutes start at one region of a container and the race is to equilibrium throughout the container.

All other things being equal, which molecule would win the race and why?

The race is, unsurprisingly, a boring event. What could you do to make the race be done quicker and why would you do those things?
