Destination and Visitor Management
Reflective Summary
Your task
Individually, you are required to compose a 6-page reflective summary of your personal development journey due to studying this subject, interacting with your peers during workshop activities and the group role-play activity, completing your forum discussion questions, and studying weekly resources.
Assessment Description
This individual assessment aims to foster students' ability to discuss and reflect on the main aspects of a destination and visitor management through concept mapping of their personal learning experiences. This will enable students to showcase their ability to be active learners by reflecting on visitor and destination management theories and concepts covered in weeks 1 to 12. More importantly, this reflective summary will allow students to practise their personal development concept mapping skills, which are necessary in today's business world.
Assessment Instructions
For an optimum outcome, the reflective summary should be started at the beginning of week one and continued throughout at least weekly. The key questions that you should ask yourself are:
How have your learning experiences and the significant knowledge and skills you have developed during this subject affected you?
Reflection requires you to observe, describe and make meaning of experiences closely. Critical reflection, on the other hand, requires you to take one step further. It requires you to analyse, reconsider and question your learning experiences by relating them to your previous knowledge and skills. Based on this, you can decide on changes (improvements) in your future personal development as a leader in the tourism and hospitality sector. In preparing this summary, you will need to write a detailed critical reflection on the following aspects:
Your view of the destination and visitor management practices before entering MBA653.
Your goal of entering MBA653 about the subject matter.
Your reflection on what you have learnt about the destination and visitor management during MBA653.
The destination and visitor management areas that have interested you the most and why.
Make proposals on developing yourself further in your professional career.
Other aspects you have reflected on that are not included above.
Additionally, you must create a concept map of your personal development as a summative ending to your critical reflection. This map should be included as an appendix at the end of your reflective summary. For those of you who are unfamiliar with concept mapping, please read the following exert:
"What is a concept map, and what does it look like? A concept map:
is organising and representing knowledge through a diagram showing the relationships between concepts,
reveals concepts, usually represented as boxes or circles, which relate to labelled arrows in a hierarchical structure and
has arrows labelled with short phrases such as ‘is', ‘leads to', ‘gives rise to', ‘results in', ‘is
required by', or ‘contributes to', etc."
In this reflective summary, you must use at least ten (10) sources of information. These may include websites, social media sites, industry reports, census data, journal articles, and newspaper articles. These references should be presented as in-text citations and a reference list at the end of your reflective summary (not included in the word limit). Wikipedia and other ‘popular' sites are not to be used. Please note that the concept map is not included in this submission page limit.
