Words: 2000. References for the assignment can come from something as simple as a citation to support a particular communication device (i.e. open-ended questions or empathy), can link to a theoretical construct or principle (i.e. pre-contemplation as part of change theory) that was at play during the episode of communication or can support the definition or impact of a variable upon the communication (i.e. the impact of power or gender etc.) or anything else you feel is relevant to your discussion. The episode of communication can come from any pert of your life so you're not restricted to clinical only episodes. The key in choosing your episode is to make sure there is enough substance and detail specifically related to the communication that occurred to form the basis for your discussion.

This assignment doesn't have to be clinically focused. An Assignment of 2000 words that examines a Significant Episode of Communication. Students are encouraged to paraphrase sources of material through the use of their own words wherever possible. Excessive use of direct quotes will be severely penalised and may result in a decreased grade. Presentation Guide for Assignment One: Your Assignment should have 1.5 line spacing & Font size 12. Set your margins at 2.5 cm for left and right margins. Use the APA referencing style of author and date. Write in the 3rd person at all times.

Submission: In keeping with RMIT policy all assignments are to be submitted through the Turnitin Portal available via the course webpage under the Assessment Tasks link. The assignment is due by 23:59 on the relevant Sunday night. The portal will remain open after this time to allow for extension submissions however the time you submit is recorded so if you submit your assignment after 23:59 it will be penalised for late submission [so please make sure that it is submitted by 23:59]. The Turnitin portal will open 2 weeks prior to the assignment due date to allow you to submit your assignment. You are allowed to submit it as many times as you would like up until 23:59; the assignment I will receive to mark will be the LAST one you submitted.
