Step One: Choose 1 or more of the extra credit options below. Review the video/movie as required for the option you choose. You can earn between 5-10 extra credit points by submitting one extra assignment worth 10 points, two extra credit assignments worth 5 points each, or one extra credit assignment worth 5 points. The points will be applied to your lowest grade this quarter.
Step Two: For each extra credit option, write a 2-page reflection paper connecting the content to power, privilege, and oppression. Also, include how completing this extra credit assignment will inform your social work practice.Feel free to add your reflections on how this video/movie impacted you.
Step Three: Submit your extra credit assignment(s) to your instructor. All extra credit assignments will be due at the end of the quarter by the date set by your section instructor.
The content and discussion in the extra credit options below will necessarily engage with the topics related to power, privilege and oppression.
• Specifically, this content will take a deep dive into covering terminology such as white supremacy, white fragility, privilege, oppression, anti-racism, and other strong social and racial justice language.
• Much of it will be emotionally and intellectually challenging to engage with.
• The work to align ourselves with equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and to embed into our daily practice, is to unapologetically confront and discuss the harm that has oppressed many underserved and marginalized groups and populations - many of whom we serve and work alongside.
• Content covered may trigger or cause intense physiological and psychological symptoms for people with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) and other anxiety disorders.
• It is essential that we recognize the contextual stimuli and lived experiences of the audience that recall an individuals experience of trauma.
• It is an expectation that all adult learners attend to their own well-being.
