Obligation to me means doing something you are expected to do. This can be applied to a family settings, the obligation to always be there for family.
A. Pick ONE of these applications listed above to direct your focus for the novel.
B. Consider (don't need to write this down, yet) how the past, present, and future factor into such relationships-what/how much must/should those involved be under obligation to/for regarding the years/decades/centuries preceding their relationship, regarding their current status or interactions, and regarding the future developments (potential to develop or decline) for the relationship.
C. We may assume that Alexie has presented more shortcomings than successes in the relationships in this collection of short stories.
D.
