It is now time to start your journal. The journal is an opportunity for you to reflect on your learning. Doing so helps to reinforce your understanding of the material. Later in this course, you will learn more about brain-based learning and will gain a deeper understanding of how strategies such as journaling can help you succeed.
So, let's get started. Here's what you do.
Take a few minutes to reflect on what you learned about the LMS (Learning Management System). At Lethbridge College, the LMS is Canvas. Consider questions such as the following:
1. How will instructors in your other classes use the LMS? If you are not sure, take a few moments and ask your instructors. Some questions you might consider include:
a. Do they prefer to use it for communication?
b. Do they have any course content available in the LMS?
c. Are you expected to submit your assignments in the LMS?
d. Will they use the Gradebook to show your marks?
2. What parts of the LMS do you think will be most useful to you? Why?
3. What parts of the LMS do you think you will find most challenging? Why?
4. What questions do you still have about using the LMS?
5. Where can you find help with using the LMS if you need more information or support?
JOURNAL ENTRIE 2
1. Do you believe these results accurately reflect who you are as a learner? Why or why not?
2. What new insights did you gain?
3. Describe a situation that demonstrates your learning strengths.
4. Describe ways that you
5. might be able to use awareness of your learning preferences to enhance your studies.
JOURNAL ENTRIE 3
* What skills do you most want to develop? Why?
* Think of a time in which you, or someone close to you, experienced a challenge because of a time management/planning issue. Explain what you could have done differently to improve the results.
* Think of a time in which you demonstrated effective time management/planning skills. What was the situation? What skills did you use? How can you apply these successes to your academic studies?
