In this task you are required to video record yourself for 3-5 minutes and reflect on different aspects of literacy teaching and learning in relation to a selected (children's) story book. In order to complete this task, you must first choose a story book of your preference. You can go to any local library and borrow a story book for the purpose of this task. In your recorded reflection you must ensure you address the following:
Briefly indicate why you have selected that book;
Read the first two-three pages of the book aloud - imagine you're reading it to a group of children sitting on the floor around you.
Once you've finished reading the two-three pages, please indicate what you would consider important when reading a book aloud to children (e.g. pace, rhythm, tone, enunciation of words, attention to words and pictures, etc.)
Reflect on what message your selected book is transmitting to children, and what kind of knowledge is raising awareness of (e.g. cultural knowledge, syntactic knowledge, phonemic knowledge, etc.).
