Management and Leadership Awareness
Description:
Your studies are leading toward you being employed in a variety of industry areas, likely in Tourism and Hospitality. While an understanding of operational processes in any organisation is essential, higher levels of employment require greater understandings of management and leadership skills and dynamics, and how they tie into Human Resource Management activities.
Work environments are full of various interpersonal interactions where managers, leaders, supervisors, workers engage in activities to achieve both operational and strategic goals.
Sometimes these interactions are challenging and difficult to understand.
Format:
This assessment activity firstly asks you to think, reflect on, some of your own qualities (interpersonal and intrapersonal skills) as relate to management activities and practices. You are then required to consider an environment in which you observed management and leadership interactions (they may have been good or bad, or perhaps didn't occur when they should have). This environment may have been where you work now or worked, sporting clubs, social groups, or at a university or school you attended. You need to think about a time when leadership and management skills were displayed by the other people involved, and the strengths and weaknesses they displayed.
By learning to reflect and analyse dynamic interpersonal work situations you will become a highly skilled manager able to better lead and manage people in challenging and dynamic work environments.
