In April 2023, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing released a study that found 100,000 U.S. nurses exited the profession during the COVID-19 pandemic and projected that an additional 800,000 nurses are set to leave the profession by 2027 (Carbajal, 2023). Prior to the onset of COVID-19, the employment of International Nurses has helped to provide a lifeline to hospitals which would otherwise have an insufficient number of nurses to provide direct patient care (Masselink and Jones, 2014). The State Department announced in its May News Bulletin that the majority of its available green card slots that nurses are eligible for had been filled and that only nurses "who applied prior to June 1, 2022, will be eligible to continue with visa interviews, even if an applicant already had a job offer in the U.S." (Weixel, 2023). You are the HR Director for Triad Regional Medical Center. Triad has leveraged International Nurses in its operations for nearly 15 years. Describe the strategies Triad must leverage to maintain its existing International Nurses.
